Coaching is one of the principal tools modern organisations have for developing their people. It provides the necessary reflective processes and feedback mechanisms for self-improvement. Coaching is now routinely used with leaders, teams and individuals to improve capability, performance, leaderships skills and transformational change. (Dr. I.M. Metcalfe, Swinburne University, Melbourne, 2011). Job advertisements are now calling for coaching skills as part of the suite of skills and experience for an applicant to bring to the role. Coaching is solution-focused, enhancing resilience, accountability and problem solving skills in those who are coached.
Through this one-day Coaching Conversations workshop, you will receive an introduction to the attitude and language needed to carry out conversations using a coaching style. The workshop allows you to explore tools and techniques to develop your coaching conversation style and to explore the areas where you can use coaching with students, colleagues and parents. There will also be ample opportunity to try out your new skills.
Brief Overview of Program Content ( 6 hours PD)
- How coaching compares to mentoring, counselling and training
- Coaching skills including active listening and effective questioning
- Coaching frameworks including the GROW Model
- Several mini – coaching conversation practice sessions
- Feedback techniques plus strategies to use in difficult conversations
You will be provided with a workbook to use during the program and to revisit as you need and a Certificate of Attendance, stating the relevant AITSL standards addressed and the number of hours completed by the training program.
The Coach: Janine Stratford, of Coaching Focus, is a former Deputy Principal, now Executive Coach, trainer and facilitator of professional development programs. She is a Master Coach Practitioner founding her coaching business in 2006, holds a Masters Degree in Education (Ed. Management), a Graduate Diploma in Adolescent Health & Welfare, a Diploma in Education and a Bachelor of Science. She is a Restorative Practice Facilitator and trainer of YALE’s RULER Approach in social and emotional learning. Janine holds leadership development conferences across Australia, presents for Independent Schools Victoria, as well as her own programs. Janine is an accredited coach with the International Coach Federation and a certified professional behavioural analyst. Her professional development programs focus on leadership development, emotional intelligence, coaching, managing conflict and conversational resilience. Janine holds the annual national The Leading Edge: Women In Education Conference.
